Dwight McNeil, Neco Williams react to Chris Wood announcement at Nottingham Forest

Chris Wood gained plenty of attention from other Premier League stars as the Nottingham Forest talisman was the centre of a new announcement.

The New Zealand international has notched 19 goals across all competitions, following on from his 15 goals last season, playing a key role as the Reds push for Champions League qualification.

It has been a truly incredible campaign at the City Ground, whatever happens in the remaining four matches, with Forest doing everything to tie Nuno Espirito Santo down to a new deal.

With the campaign nearing its end, awards begin to be handed out, and Wood’s performances have seen him gain deserved recognition despite scoring just once in his last eight games.

Taking to Instagram (30 April), the official Nottingham Forest account wrote: “Woody has been named The Football Writers’ Association Midlands Player of the Year,” with a clapping emoji.

After just a few minutes, the post had already gained attention from supporters, with teammate Neco Williams and Everton’s Dwight McNeil liking the announcement.

Due to such an outstanding campaign at the City Ground, multiple big names are being linked with other Premier League clubs, and deals might be forced on Forest without Champions League football.

Morgan Gibbs-White has gained attention from Man City, while Ola Aina and Murillo have also gathered admirers ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

If Forest are to be competing in the Champions League, as well as the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, a new striker will be of vital importance despite Wood’s accolades.

At 33 years of age, it is highly unlikely that the forward will be able to continue recreating similar records, even if there are no signs of him slowing down this season.

The combination of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga, along with Gibbs-White in the centre of midfield, should be more than enough to attract a high-profile striker to the City Ground.

After Wood’s 19 goals, the next highest scorer is Elanga with just six goals. The Reds are in desperate need of another source of goals ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
