Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is set for his first competitive appearance of the season in the Europa League clash against Bundesliga outfit Cologne in midweek, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to call upon the 25-year-old for the opening fixture of the European competition at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.
The newspaper reports that the England international has recovered from his leg injury from last season and he has been guaranteed more game time in the Europa League and the domestic cup competitions.
The report claims that Wenger is set to ring the changes for the midweek game with Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez all likely to feature in order to improve their match fitness.
Wilshere has not been selected for any of the matchday squads this season although he has played in two games for the Under-23 team, contributing with one assist and receiving a red card in the process.
The midfielder has not been involved in a competitive match for the Gunners since the 3-1 victory against Watford at Vicarage Road in August last season.
Wilshere’s last appearance for the North London club in a European competition came in the 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Champions League group stages during the 2014-15 campaign.
