Everton will hand defender Jonjoe Kenny a place in the starting line-up for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Sunderland at Goodison Park , according to a report.

The Liverpool Echo claimed in their live matchday blog on Wednesday [06:04pm] that Kenny, 20, will be given his first appearance in the senior squad this season.

It is understood that Oumar Niasse is also expected to earn himself a spot on the bench after impressing in the Under-23 squad in recent weeks despite finding himself surplus to requirements on Merseyside.

Kenny is one of the more promising young talents to be making his way through the Everton youth ranks in recent years.

He has been called up for first-team duty twice already this season but failed to make his way on to the pitch after being named on the bench in clashes with Hadjuk Split and Chelsea.

The young right-back has made two appearances previously in the Toffees first-team, but the bulk of his senior experience has come on loan spells with both Oxford United and Wigan.

Ronald Koeman’s side can book themselves a spot in the fourth round draw with a win over Simon Grayson’s Sunderland side on Wednesday.

The draw will take place after the completion of the evening’s fixtures.
