Eddie Howe has just confirmed worst possible Yoane Wissa news ahead of Wolves clash

Newcastle United have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of their Premier League clash against Wolves at St James’ Park on 13 September.

Eddie Howe had hoped to have a fully-fit squad ahead of their return to league football following the international break, but will not be afforded that luxury.

Yoane Wissa sparked fears about a potential blow during DR Congo’s clash with Senegal after he was taken off after 74 minutes with an apparent knee issue.

The forward signed for Newcastle on transfer deadline day following Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool, and had hoped to hit the ground running in the North East.

Wissa was expected to be fit start against Wolves in a boost to their forward line, but Howe’s latest quotes have now confirmed the Magpies’ worst fears.

Eddie Howe confirms Yoane Wissa injury blow

As reported by the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Wissa will not be fit for the game against Wolves, while Jacob Ramsey has also been ruled out for a month.

Wissa had a scan on his knee after travelling back from international duty with DR Congo, and is set to see a specialist about the blow.

Amid expectations that the forward would be okay and would return to training with Newcastle, Howe confirmed he is “still feeling the effects”.

Howe followed up by explaining: “It’s a knee injury, but I don’t know any more than that. We only saw him for the first time yesterday”.

Meanwhile, his new teammate has been ruled out for a longer period with an injury following Ramsey’s controversial move from Aston Villa which caused tension among Unai Emery’s squad.

Wissa injury news stuns after big-money Newcastle transfer

Wissa had been a long-term target for Newcastle once it became clear that Isak would be leaving the club, and went to extreme lengths to force through the move.

Newcastle ultimately paid over the odds for Wissa to get a £55million deal over the line before the transfer deadline, after he spent over a month refusing to train.

There was hope that the forward could immediately come in to Howe’s starting XI to provide a new option up front – but those hopes have been dashed.

Isak’s long-term absence had forced Newcastle to start Anthony Gordon as a central striker, while Will Osula provided another option as an out-and-out number nine.

However, Nick Woltemade could provide some respite to the Magpies’ concerns about Wissa’s fitness and he has been tipped to start up front against Wolves.
