‘Newcastle set to make Calvert-Lewin decision amid Benjamin Sesko blow’
Newcastle United must act swiftly in the transfer market to bolster their frontline amid their growing frustrations.
The Magpies have missed out on previous striker targets Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, who both joined Chelsea, whereas Hugo Ekitike moved to Liverpool amid advances from Eddie Howe’s men.
Howe’s side already have one forward fewer than last season, as Callum Wilson left St James’ Park upon the expiry of his contract.
But most worryingly, Liverpool have eyed Alexander Isak, who is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and Newcastle’s most important player.

Newcastle set to ready Calvert-Lewin swoop as Man United hi-jack Sesko move
Amid Liverpool’s advances for Isak, Newcastle are interested in Benjamin Sesko as the North East club seek reinforcements.
The Slovenia international notched 13 goals and five assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig last season, and could be an asset for Howe’s men in the Premier League.
However, Sesko is set to favour Manchester United, handing the North East club yet another blow in the transfer market.
Having missed out on so many high-profile targets this summer, and with the Premier League season now fast approaching, Howe must look to alternatives.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have eyed Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is available on a free transfer after leaving his former club Everton.
Calvert-Lewin was not Howe’s main target this summer, but the St James’ Park outfit should sign him, as they run the risk of beginning the new season with a lack of strikers.

Howe will find himself under pressure next season
Even if Newcastle sign Calvert-Lewin, their striking options will not be as strong as they were when Wilson was Isak’s backup option, thanks to the former Everton man’s concerning injury record.

Meanwhile, Howe has raised expectations at St James’ Park by guiding his club to Carabao Cup glory in the same season as clinching Champions League qualification last term.
If Isak joins Liverpool, the North East side will struggle to make progress in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Therefore, amid the ambitious ownership of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, Howe could soon find himself under pressure at St James’ Park.
Unfortunately for the 47-year-old, Newcastle have not only missed out on strikers they have eyed in the transfer market, but also witnessed goalkeeper James Trafford join Manchester City, and winger Bryan Mbeumo sign for Manchester United.
Having overseen a successful career in the North East to date, Howe now runs the risk of enduring a tough campaign next season.
