Eddie Howe sack update as Premier League odds slashed after Newcastle’s loss vs Brentford

Eddie Howe is under mounting pressure at St James’ Park after Newcastle United were beaten by Brentford.

Newcastle lost 3-2 to Brentford on Saturday, marking a fourth loss in the Magpies’ last five games across all competitions.

The home side had gone ahead through Sven Botman, but goals from Vitaly Janelt, Igor Thiago and Dango Ouattara allowed the visitors to inflict a hugely damaging defeat.

Brentford’s win marked their first league double over Newcastle since 1935, in what was a hugely embarrassing result for Howe‘s side.

Howe was already under pressure at Newcastle after his side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup, and Saturday’s disaster has only intensified the heat.

Odds slashed across the Premier League

Alongside Howe, several Premier League managers find themselves in fights to save their jobs in the final months of the season.

Tottenham lost 2-0 to Man United on Saturday, marking their seventh consecutive Premier League fixture without a win.

Burnley 2-2 Tottenham

Man United 2-0 Tottenham

Decision-makers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been desperate to back Thomas Frank, but the Lilywhites are entering dangerous territory and now hold just a six-point buffer to the relegation zone.

The Dane is the bookies’ favourite to get the sack next in the league at 11/10, but Scott Parker is also in big danger at Burnley.

The Clarets have not recorded a Premier League win since October, and their relegation looks a certainty.

However, Burnley have shown in the past, in the case of Vincent Kompany, that they are willing to keep faith in their manager despite relegation, although Parker’s odds of being the next for the boot have been slashed to 2/1.

Sean Dyche has also seen his odds shortened after Nottingham Forest lost in a relegation six-pointer with Leeds United on Friday.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe with betting odds

The former Everton manager’s odds of getting sacked next have been shortened to 11/2 by one major bookmaker.

Despite Saturday’s defeat, Howe’s odds have drifted to 13/2, although he remains among the favourites to be shown the door.

The other Premier League managers in the race to be sacked next

Interestingly, the bookies have also slashed Pep Guardiola‘s odds of being the next manager to leave.

The legendary Man City manager may be ready to leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer, but his odds being shortened to 14/1 could suggest there is a suspicion he is pushed before he can jump.

Fabian Hurzeler is another manager in an interesting situation at Brighton. The Seagulls have been in poor form of late, but the general feeling is that the German will keep the faith of his higher-ups.

His odds of being the next in the Premier League to face the sack have been shortened to 20/1.
