‘Eddie Howe to make Sandro Tonali undroppable at Newcastle’: Fans stunned

Newcastle fans have taken to social media in joy over Sandro Tonali’s performance against Brentford to insist he will now “start every game”.

The Magpies faced the West London club in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they advanced to the last four with a 3-1 victory.

The Italian midfielder bagged a brace, with Fabian Schar the other scorer for the Tyneside club.

He has been in and out of Eddie Howe’s team this season with 892 minutes played. The 24-year-old missed the majority of last season after he was suspended for multiple breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

Tonali’s two strikes against Thomas Frank’s men were his first of the season and just his second and third for the club.

Newcastle fans have been waiting patiently for Sandro Tonali

The former AC Milan player has impressed supporters with his performances, despite limited game time.

Newcastle signed him for £55 million last summer [BBC Sport], but his ten-month ban has prevented him from regularly demonstrating his quality.

Injuries have disrupted Howe’s team again this season, with Callum Wilson the latest to suffer a setback.

Tonight, however, fans finally witnessed what Tonali is capable of as he linked up with Bruno Guimarães in midfield. Supporters have eagerly anticipated the duo and hope it won’t be cut short with Man City interested in the Brazilian.

One fan declared that he “must start every game” over players like Sean Longstaff, while another insisted the team should “build around him”.

Another praised his performance, saying he proved tonight why he is “one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world” amid ongoing links to a return to Italy.

In other news, Sven Botman sent a message to fans on social media regarding his anticipated return.
