‘Eddie Howe under new pressure at Newcastle – all of a sudden…’
Eddie Howe is set to face increasing pressure at Newcastle over the next year as a result of the club’s Carabao Cup success.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that there is now an expectation for Newcastle to win trophies regularly.
Brown explained that the club are hoping the Carabao Cup victory will set the tone for the coming seasons rather than being a one-off success.
The attitude and perspective of the club and the fans will shift towards being successful rather than being competitive which had previously been acceptable.
A slow start to next season is likely to result in questions being asked, and a lack of clear progression could see fingers pointed at the manager.
This comes after Football Insider reported Simon Jordan’s claims that Howe isn’t expected to remain at Newcastle long-term and could become the next England boss.

Eddie Howe faces new pressure at Newcastle United
Football Insider reported in September 2024 that Howe would love to manage England if he was to lose his job at Newcastle amid reports of a bust-up.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, backed Howe to deal with the pressure but warned he must deliver results and trophies.
“Newcastle are going to find out what pressure really is,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve now won something for the first time in 70 years.
“It’s always been a bit like ‘good old Newcastle‘, the fans get behind the team and they’re not quite there but they’re getting close.
“All of a sudden, that expectation will switch and the demand is there to win things.
“They’ve tasted that success now and they’re going to expect more of the same.
“That’s not just the fans either, it’s the board and the club as a whole, they are hoping the Carabao Cup win has set the tone for the next few years.
“If they have a slow start to next season or they’re not seen to be making progress, questions will be asked.
“It’s a new type of pressure for the club and for Eddie Howe, and I’m sure he will be able to deal with it, but the expectation is going to ramp up.
“They’ve proved they can win trophies, but now it’s going to be ‘do it again’, and if they can’t then perhaps they’ll find someone who will.”

Eddie Howe eyes Aaron Ramsdale signing after Nick Pope twist
Ahead of the building pressure at Newcastle, Howe is looking to strengthen his squad and to build upon the progress they have made this season.
One key position for improvement is in goal, as Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle plan to accept offers for Nick Pope when the window opens.
Now, Brown has told Football Insider that Newcastle want to sign Aaron Ramsdale to replace Pope after Southampton were relegated from the Premier League.
Ramsdale has a £25million relegation release clause in his deal which Newcastle are now prepared to rival other Premier League clubs for his signature.
