‘Ederson to quit Man City as Pep Guardiola gives green light’
Ederson is planning to push for a move away from Man City at the end of the season amid renewed interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Pep Guardiola would be open to the goalkeeper’s departure.
The 31-year-old’s contract at the Etihad does not expire until 2026, but speculation about his future at the club has been rife since the summer.
Football Insider revealed in August that Saudi clubs had lined up significant offers for the goalkeeper, but no deal materialised as he opted to remain at the Etihad.
However, after a frustrating season in which the goalkeeper has suffered with multiple injury issues, there is a belief that the club will be open to offers.
Guardiola is said to be planning large-scale changes to his squad after a busy January transfer window, with no player’s position guaranteed as things stand.
Pep Guardiola gives green light to Ederson exit amid squad overhaul
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the club will not stand in the way if Ederson wishes to make the move.
“Ederson leaving is a definite possibility in the summer,” he told Football Insider.
“He’ll be considering his future, as a lot of players at the club will be,and I’d expect the interest from Saudi Arabia hasn’t faded.
“If we go back to the start of Pep’s time at City, he cycled through three, four, five international standard goalkeepers before he found the right one for his team.
“But now there’s a feeling that his time at City is drawing to a close.
“He’s had a few issues with injuries this season and has been in and out of the team, plus he’s getting older and City are looking at their squad.
“They were busy in January and I expect them to be busy again in the summer because they’re trying to refresh their team.

“So Pep, I think, will let him go if there’s a reasonable offer on the table and he wants to leave.
“Then they’ll look to bring in a new goalkeeper who can step straight into the starting XI.“
