Eduardo Camavinga to Man United: Stats must trigger second thoughts over Real Madrid star

Eduardo Camavinga appears to be on a collision course for Old Trafford, but Manchester United could have second thoughts this summer.

Casemiro is set to depart once his contract expires, with Manuel Ugarte also linked with a move away, so it makes perfect sense for the Brazilian’s replacement to come from Real Madrid.

Football Insider understands that Real Madrid are bracing for offers amid interest from the Red Devils and Liverpool, with Los Blancos undecided over his future at the Bernabeu.

That should already be a major red flag for those at the Theatre of Dreams, and yet, Camavinga appears to be one of the top priorities for Man United’s squad overhaul this summer.

Eduardo Camavinga shows signs of a worrying decline

At 19 years of age, Camavinga was one of the hottest prospects in world football, but the Frenchman appears to have fallen by the wayside in recent seasons.

In what was a blockbuster European clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on Tuesday, 7 April, the midfielder simply had to sit and watch from the bench.

Thiago Pritarch, 18, was given the nod, but even after a difficult hour on the pitch, it was Jude Bellingham that the manager turned to, with Camavinga clearly not trusted in the middle of the park.

He did start in the 2-1 defeat to Mallorca, however. And the less said about that performance, the better, highlighting why the France international has started just one of Madrid’s last six games.

Who else could Man United sign instead?

There are so many exciting options out there, not least the ones that the Red Devils have already explored.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has followed in Camavinga’s footsteps in terms of some poor performances, so that would leave the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United will accelerate a deal for Tonali, with Anderson more likely to join Man City in the summer, and he would be an incredible addition.

Multiple players are expected to be replaced, but given how United play their football, sorting out the midfield positions should be a top priority ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
