Elliot Anderson to Liverpool: Concrete ‘interest’ revealed

Liverpool and Man United are determined to strengthen their midfield in the coming transfer windows with Elliot Anderson top of their list.

Having chased Brighton‘s Carlos Baleba over the summer, former Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Anderson has emerged as Man United’s top midfield target.

The Red Devils will need to make haste in their pursuit with Newcastle keen to bring Anderson back to the club after selling him in the summer of 2024.

To add to Ruben Amorim‘s increasing competition for the Englishman, finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Man City could also afford the rumoured £75million for Anderson.

The threat that Premier League rivals may beat United to the number eight is sure to prompt an explosive reaction from the Old Trafford board.

Nottingham Forest to demand eye-watering amount if Anderson makes 2026 World Cup

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Englishman’s stunning form will certainly put him in good stead to make Thomas Tuchel’s squad next summer.

Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Anderson will definitely go to the World Cup with England if he maintains his current performance levels for both club and country.

However, his World Cup debut will have an adverse effect on the Red Devils who could see their ideal midfield target’s price tag soar as a result.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think all the top clubs in the Premier League would be interested in signing Elliot Anderson if there was an opportunity to lure him away from the City Ground.

“It won’t just be Manchester United who will be interested. Newcastle have openly admitted they would love to bring him back to the club.

“Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool would all be interested in Elliot Anderson. I think he looks like a certainty to go away to the World Cup now with England.

“I think that’ll just enhance his reputation if he was to go away to next summer’s World Cup and impressing for England there obviously increases his price tag.

“Obviously, Forest have him under contract until 2029, so they’re under no real pressure to sell him. The only issue Forest could have is if they were to suffer relegation, they would really struggle to hold on to him then.

“But look, I think this interest in Elliot Anderson is just going to grow and grow, especially if he continues to impress like he has done for Forest and England in recent months.”

Man United to pivot to Morten Hjulmand instead of out-of-reach Anderson

Given the 22-year-old’s ever-rising transfer figure, the Red Devils may be wiser to go after a more achievable target to boost the midfield.

Sources told Football Insider that Amorim could be reunited with Morten Hjulmand at Man United.

The pair worked together at Sporting CP for just over one season with the Portuguese turning the 26-year-old into one of the best midfielders in the league.

Reportedly attainable for £50m, United may prefer to pursue the Dane in the upcoming windows as a cheaper alternative to Anderson.
