Emi Martinez and Antonio Rudiger react to ‘not happy’ Cristian Romero at Tottenham

Cristian Romero has received responses from rival stars after sending a message via social media to Tottenham fans after a 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday.

Supporters have been rather critical of the Argentine centre-back this season, with Romero having been unavailable for Tottenham since December but being fit enough for the upcoming international window.

A plethora of injuries has seen Ange Postecoglou put under severe pressure at Tottenham, with the team sinking to 14th in the Premier League table, which was not helped by another defeat on 16 March.

The Lilywhites looked set for a draw at Craven Cottage, with neither side able to find the back of the net. That was until substitute Rodrigo Muniz fired past Guglielmo Vicario in the 78th minute.

Ryan Sessegnon sealed all three points for Fulham with just two minutes of normal time remaining, haunting his former team after arriving on a free transfer last summer.

Taking to Instagram [16 March], Romero wrote: “We’re not happy with our current situation, but this group will always stand up and take responsibility for everything that happens at the club.

“Let’s all continue to stand together. Once again, fans, thank you for always being there,” with a white heart emoji. The post received likes from teammates Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie.

Aston Villa star Emi Martinez and Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger also liked the post.

Ange Postecoglou walking sack tightrope in North London

Football Insider verdict

Daniel Levy is unlikely to sack Postecoglou however the club finish the current campaign, with a Europa League title still on the cards in North London.

Spurs have been through multiple big-name managers over the last few seasons, with little sign of progress on the pitch, so it seems foolish to think another change could help.

Tottenham managers have not stayed long since Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure.

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte both failed in attempting to take the Lilywhites to the next level, both ending up on Levy’s chopping block, but the owner has remained loyal to Postecoglou so far.

Winning the Europa League title would certainly go some way to alleviating the anger and frustration of Spurs fans this season, but with a squad full of deadweight, a big-money transfer window might be what is needed.

For now, an upcoming Europa League quarter-final draw against Frankfurt must be the sole focus in North London.
