Emi Martinez reacts to Tottenham ace Cristian Romero’s ‘I’ll miss you’ post

Cristian Romero sent an emotional message to his supporters via social media as the defender headed back to Tottenham.

The experienced centre-half was at fault for Matheus Cunha‘s long-range goal, but with Argentina managing to defeat their biggest rivals 4-1 on Wednesday, 26 March, all was forgotten.

Having been unavailable for much of the season for Ange Postecoglou back in North London, Romero has been seriously under pressure from Tottenham fans, with some even wanting him sold this summer.

His absence, alongside Micky van de Ven, has seen Spurs drift further and further down the Premier League table, leaving supporters frustrated and needing to aim their anger somewhere.

Given the speculation, many believe the Argentine could join Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in a summer move to Real Madrid, but it is yet to be seen what the club’s plans are this summer.

Taking to Instagram [26 March], Romero wrote: “Another incredible night. See you soon, I’ll miss you,” with the post gaining likes from Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Man United star Angel Di Maria also commented with four love heart emojis.

Tottenham star returns to North London ahead of Europa League ties

Football Insider verdict

Postecoglou is under tremendous pressure at Tottenham, and even with an upcoming Europa League quarter-final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, not even that could save him now.

Multiple names have emerged as potential candidates to take over ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, though Andoni Iraola is unlikely to swap Bournemouth for Tottenham right now.

The Australian has just 11 matches remaining to save his tenure in North London, and the Frankfurt fixtures are likely to shape Daniel Levy’s plans ahead of the summer.

Despite the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin and Richarlison all still being sidelined, returns of Romero, van de Ven, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario leave the manager with no excuses.

Levy is now having fingers pointed at him, and with the manager usually taking the blame once the owner is under pressure, it could be just a matter of time before Postecoglou is replaced.
