England fans have delivered upbeat reactions online to the performance of Kobbie Mainoo in the nation’s goalless draw with Slovenia.
Mainoo was introduced by Gareth Southgate for the second half of the match in Cologne, and inspired viewers with his display even if the Three Lions as a collective largely did not.
Tuesday’s stalemate limps Southgate’s side to the top of Group C, finding out their round of 16 opponents after Wednesday night’s closing group matches.
The teenager has hit the headlines in recent months following a 33-appearance season for Manchester United, scoring in the FA Cup final and receiving his maiden England call-up in March aged just 18 and without an Under-21 cap to his name.
Football Insider revealed [30 May] that Mainoo was being lined up at Old Trafford for a “bumper new contract”, in a bid to keep the midfielder – dubbed “generational” by supporters – as a key player for many years to come.
Mainoo made his first major tournament appearance in the 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, the opening match for England at Euro 2024.
