English pundit issues Van Bronckhorst ultimatum after Koeman-Rangers reveal

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst will have to get results at Rangers to earn credit in the bank with their supporters despite a high-profile vouch from Ronald Koeman.

That is according to Kevin Campbell, who was speaking to Football Insider about the new Gers boss.

As reported by the Scotsman (November 19th), Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson sought the counsel of former Barcelona boss Koeman before appointing Van Bronckhorst.

Wilson branded Koeman a “great man” and reinforced his respect and trust in the former Netherlands icon.

The pair worked together at Southampton from 2014 to 2016.

Van Bronckhorst was appointed as the new manager of Rangers last week, but could only watch on from the stands as the Gers were defeated in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday (November 21st).

Campbell insisted Koeman’s endorsement will mean nothing if the former Feyenoord boss cannot produce results at Ibrox.

“Ronald Koeman will know Van Bronckhorst pretty well, and he’s obviously given him the vouch,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“But he will have to come into the club, do the work and provide results – it’s as simple as that. That’s the name of the game.

“It’s great having those high-level footballing people mentioning you and supporting you, but he will have to get in there at Ibrox and get Rangers winning after a difficult result.“

Rangers sit top of the Scottish Premiership, leading Old Firm rivals Celtic by four points.

Van Bronckhorst will face his first derby match against the Hoops on January 2nd.
