Eric Dier delivers Twitter message after Tottenham win v Chelsea

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham utility man Eric Dier took to Twitter to hail a “special night at the Lane” after his side ran out 2-0 victors against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old started in a three-man defence for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as the Argentine adopted a 3-4-3 formation for the clash.

He delivered an accomplished display and helped his team keep a crucial clean sheet, while Dele Alli’s double secured the north London side all three points.

It was a vital win for Tottenham against a side where tempers have flared in previous encounters and Dier hailed the victory on his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning.

Dier has played in the centre-back and defensive midfield positions for Tottenham this campaign with 24 appearances to his name in total.

He has proved a very solid pair of boots in the Spurs defensive unit, which has seen them boast the best defence in the league after the midweek victory.

The north London club have conceded just 14 goals in their 20 league matches.

Their impressive defence has seen them occupy third place in the league table with five victories from their previous five matches.

They now sit seven points away from league leaders Chelsea and they will be keen to put up a battle for the title.
