Erik ten Hag sack update emerges at Man United today – sources

Erik ten Hag is still expected to be sacked as Man United manager this week, sources have told Football Insider

Football Insider first revealed on 11 May the Dutchman was expected to be dismissed by the Premier League giantss following their underwhelming Premier League campaign.

There has been growing speculation the 54-year-old will remain at Old Trafford following the club’s FA Cup final victory over Man City amid an increasing groundswell of support among fans.

But sources say Man United chiefs are still more likely than not to sack Ten Hag when they complete an internal review of the club’s campaign.

It would mean United appointing a new manager for next season, with preliminary talks already taking place with candidates and their representatives.

Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are in the frame for the job, but Kieran McKenna appears to be now out of the running as he is set to sign a new contract with Ipswich Town.

Football Insider revealed last week Pochettino has emerged as a “serious and very interesting” option for the club after he left Chelsea by mutual consent.

Erik ten Hag likely to be sacked despite Man United FA Cup success

Ten Hag had a solid start to life in the Premier League after leading Man United to a third-place finish following his move from Ajax in 2022.

The FA Cup victory over Man City masked what had been a largely disappointing second season for the Dutchman, with his side finishing eighth in the table.

It’s expected the Red Devils will now move on from Ten Hag as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to stamp his authority on proceedings at Old Trafford.

The club are assessing the potential candidates as several changes are likely to be made behind the scenes and within the playing squad this summer.

Man United are hopeful of securing Dan Ashworth’s arrival at the club in the coming weeks after Football Insider revealed on 14 May they are edging closer to agreeing a deal with Newcastle United to make him their new sporting director.

In other news, the cost of sacking Ten Hag has been revealed.
