A number of clubs across Europe have made “solid enquiries” for Tottenham target Jeremy Toljan, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [07:22pm] that Hoffenheim have received approaches from teams in Italy and Spain for the 22-year-old defender.
It is understood that the Bundesliga side have slapped a £13million price-tag on the full-back, who looks to be wanted by Spurs as a replacement for Kyle Walker.
Capable of playing on both the left and right side of a back four, Toljan is said to have one year left on his current deal at Hoffenheim, which has no doubt brought his value down to an achievable level for Tottenham, who pocketed around £50million in the sale of Walker to Manchester City,
Sky Sports have previously reported that Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on the Germany Under-21 international while Portuguese newspaper Record Sport claimed that Tottenham were close to securing his signature after beating Benfica to the punch.
However the latest report says that Spurs are yet to make an official approach.
Toljan scored one goal and supplied one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions for Hoffenheim last season, however he suffered spells on the sidelines with a variety of injuries.
Football Insider Verdict
Spurs could probably do with another right-back this summer to offer a back-up option to Kieran Trippier, but they really need to pursue someone who is natural at playing there. Toljan is a left-back by trade and although he can play on the opposite side of the pitch, it would be a lot more beneficial for Tottenham to bring in someone who will focus all their effort on playing in that role. Toljan looks like he would a good buy at just £13million and that is perhaps why Spurs are targetting him. However they need to cast their net out a bit wider and make sure they bring in a good replacement for Walker. Kyle Walker-Peters is waiting in the wings and every day it looks like he’s getting closer and closer to a first-team spot.
