AC Milan have joined the race to sign Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny this summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claims that the Serie A outfit is the latest European giant to express an interest in the 31-year-old as Marseille and Manchester City also keep close tabs on him.
It is understood that Milan and Ligue 1 titans Marseille are ready to make an approach for Koscielny, despite him previously saying he is happy to stay at the Emirates.
However the centre-back has also hinted that he may be forced to consider a move to the Stade Velodrome if they make a bid.
“I have a contract with Arsenal, I even signed an extension last November until 2020. I feel very good over there,” he said, as quoted by the Mirror.
“I have always said that I was a Marseille fan when I was younger. When a mythical club like Marseille contact you, it is good. But will I sign for them? I have no idea at all.”
Koscielny has been one of the more consistent players at the Emirates in recent years and has constantly been a part of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans.
The Gunners captain made 43 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring two goals and lifting the FA Cup in May following a 2-1 win over Chelsea depsite being suspended for the final.
Football Insider Verdict
There’s a lot of interest in Koscielny, but Wenger simply cannot afford to lose a player of his quality. The 47-times France international is key to the Gunners rearguard and it would be a massive blow if a club like Man City snapped him up this summer. Marseille and AC Milan would both provide new challenges for Koscielny and it would perhaps make more sense for him to seek a move back to continental Europe to try and win some different silverware. Arsenal need to sign a new centre-back this summer as Wenger looks to get the best out of a system which utilises a back-three. Rob Holding looks to be a star for the future and should play alongside Koscienly to earn more experience.
