Zidane has a weakness for Liverpool teenager - report

Real Madrid could turn their attention to Liverpool defender Joe Gomez this summer, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim that Zinedine Zidane is a big admirer of the 19-year-old to the point that he has a “weakness” for him, and that the Real Madrid boss could turn to him in the summer to freshen up his defensive options.
Zidane wants to inject a younger face into his ageing back line, with current first team duo Pepe and Sergio Ramos both aged 30 or older.
It is believed that Liverpool’s Gomez could be Zidane’s top target, in what would be a shock move by the Spanish club.
Gomez has appeared just three times in the FA Cup for Liverpool this season under Jurgen Klopp, and has yet to feature in the Premier League.

The England U21 international missed the start of the season with an Achilles injury, but since his return, has struggled to break out from the fringes of the Liverpool first squad.
That is despite their ongoing defensive woes, with Klopp repeatedly making changes to his line up in a bid to register only their eight clean sheet of the Premier League campaign.
However, Gomez is still a player of value to the Liverpool boss, having signed a new five-year deal with the Merseyside club back in January.
Football Insider verdict
It’s a bit of a strange one, really. In Gomez’s favour, he is a promising young English defender, and his versatility means he can be play at left-back or in the centre of defence; which would suit Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Zidane is believed to have a ‘weakness’ for him, which suggests that he is already fond of his talents. On the other hand, Gomez has just returned from a 15-month absence on the injury table, and has yet to really secure regular first team action with Liverpool. Therefore, he may not be the most plausible option for Zidane at this stage. Then again, he would not likely see regular action at the Bernabeu until further down the line.
