Bayern Munich have stolen a march on Liverpool by opening talks with one of their top summer targets Julian Brandt, according to a report.
The Mirror reports that Jurgen Klopp is ready to launch a bid for the £20million-rated player to prise the 20-year-old winger away from Bayer Leverkusen.
However Bayern are also keen on the player and are reportedly in talks with the assist merchant as they seek to bolster the amount of German talent in their squad.
The Euro giants are targeting Brandt as he is thought to be a long term replacement for Thiago Alcantara.
Klopp is said to be a huge fan of the German international and has sent scouts to watch him play for Leverkusen a number of times this seasons.

Brandt has made 124 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions during his time at the club.
He developed at the Wolfsburg academy until Bayer signed him in January 2014, where he had an amazing record of 25 assists and 21 goals in just 42 matches.
This season, the German wonderkid has made 31 appearances for his club and has scored three goals and assisted his teammates seven times.
He scored one goal in the Champions League this season when he helped Leverkusen secure a massive 3-0 win over current quarter-finalists Monaco.
Joachim Low handed Brandt his first senior international cap in 2016 when he featured for 45 minutes in a friendly against Slovakia.
Football Insider Verdict
Bayern seem to be able to get everyone they want in Germany. Even the country’s second best team, Borussia Dortmund, have trouble stopping the Bavarian giants from getting their hands on whatever they please. Klopp will be fully aware of this and he will be very frustrated if he fails to get his man due to Bayern’s poaching. If Liverpool do manage to get hold of him, Brandt looks set for stardom and he could become a new Anfield icon. However at the minute there’s a lot of strength in the wide areas for the Reds and they really should be looking at sorting their defence out.
