Evangelos Marinakis has ‘big plans’ for Nottingham Forest after points deduction – sources
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will not quit the club after their devastating points deduction, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Marinakis, 56, will stay and has “big plans” to get the Reds challenging for a top-six spot in the Premier League.
Forest were hit with a four-point deduction after they were found guilty of a breach of the league’s profit and sustainability rules on Monday (18 March), but well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the owner remains “fully committed”.
Despite the huge blow to the club’s challenge to avoid relegation, it is believed that the Marinakis remains focused on progressing the club into a European outfit.
Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis wants top-six status
He has spent in excess of £200million on 34 new signings since Forest’s promotion to the top flight in 2022, including a £30million fee for Ibrahim Sangare this summer and £42.5million for Morgan Gibbs-White in 2022.
It is believed that Marinakis is eager to compete with the league’s top clubs and has sanctioned mega-money deals to help facilitate this.
However, their points deduction plunged them below Luton Town and into the relegation zone on 21 points with nine games of the season to go.

Nottingham Forest most recently drew 1-1 to fellow relegation fighters Luton Town on Saturday (16 March) after conceding an 89th-minute equaliser at Kenilworth Road.
After the international break, they will face Crystal Palace at home on 30 March.
