Everton have agreed a £25million fee with Besiktas to sign striker Cenk Tosun, according to a reliable journalist.

Guardian deputy news editor Ed Aarons claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night that the Toffees have finally ended their hunt for a star striker and Tosun, 26, will complete his move to Goodison Park within a few days when the January transfer window opens.

Turkish news outlet Hurriyet claimed earlier this month that Besiktas had slapped a £35million price tag on Tosun’s head after a huge amount of speculation surrounded the future of the Turkey international.

This came after DHA reported in November that Newcastle submitted a bid worth £8.9million plus the services of their striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in a player exchange deal for Tosun.

However it appears that Everton have won the race to sign the former Frankfurt striker, who has become quite the lethal finisher in his time at Bestikas.

This season, Tosun has scored 13 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions, with four of those strikes coming in the Champions League group stage as the Istanbul giants surprised many by qualifying for the knock-out rounds.

Football Insider verdict

Everton have not wasted any time in finding a new striker to finally fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku, but signing someone from the Turkish top-flight may be quite the risk. The strength of that league is nowhere near that of the Premier League and while Tosun has been doing quite well in it, England’s top-flight is much stronger where he will be playing against much tougher defences. £25million may be a lot of money but if there was a £35million valuation placed on the forward, then the Toffees have done very well to negotiate it down to a lower fee. Sam Allardyce’s main goal for January was to surely find a striker and that is now already done and dusted it seems.

In other Everton news, this Toffees summer signing is set to miss the entire season through injury.
