Everton can’t appoint ‘top’ manager due to Moshiri’s ‘behind the scenes problems’ – pundit

Everton will not be able to attract a top-level manager as they hunt for Rafa Benitez’s replacement.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ manager search.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new manager after Benitez’s dismissal was confirmed on Sunday (16 January).

According to The Telegraph‘s Sam Wallace (18 January), Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard are set to be interviewed for the job.

Kenny insists this is the best calibre of manager Everton can hope for at the moment.

“Everton are a massive club, don’t get me wrong,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But there are so many problems there behind the scenes because of Moshiri. There have been too many managers there recently.

“There is no real identity, it’s not an attractive proposition in my opinion.

“I think your top tier managers will pass on Everton in its current form.

“Maybe a young coach like Rooney or Lampard is exactly what they need.

“You know you will be backed and if you get it right you can be a hero there.

“It will be interesting to see who comes in but I’m sure it won’t be any of the big names we have seen linked.”

Everton confirmed Duncan Ferguson will take charge of the club’s “upcoming games” on Tuesday (18 January).

Ferguson earned a win against Chelsea and draws against Arsenal and Man United during his four-game spell in charge in 2019.
