Everton ‘close to the line’ after journalist’s update on Harry Winks pursuit – pundit

Paul Robinson is adamant Harry Winks will get his move away from Tottenham even though Everton have reportedly cooled their interest in signing him.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Frank Lampard needs to be careful with his signings as the club is “close to the financial fair play line”.

This site revealed on 19 June that the Toffees had set their sights on signing Winks and had made contact over a potential deal.

According to i news‘ Mark Douglas (30 June), the club have cooled their interest in the 26-year-old.

Frank Lampard is said to be turning his attention to other targets in the transfer market.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “Winks will be a very good signing for whoever gets him.

“His career has come to a bit of a standstill at Tottenham. He has not had the game time he wanted.

“Frank needs to restructure at Everton. They have sold Richarlison and we are also aware of their financial fair play situation. They have been close to that line for a long time now. The Richarlison money will help though.

“Frank has to strengthen and get players in that will help him. It is not about just staying in the league. They will want a mid-table finish this year. They need to progress.

“Winks would be a good addition for them. If Frank has cooled their interest, there will be no shortage of takers.”
