Everton dealt blow in manager hunt as club chief rules top target out
By Guy Giles
Everton have been dealt a massive blow in the hunt for their next manager after Atletico Madrid’s president Enrique Cerezo branded target Diego Simeone as ‘untouchable’.
Simeone emerged as the surprise top target for the Toffees as they continue their search for a new boss after the sacking of Ronald Koeman.
Other potential targets include Burnley boss Sean Dyche, and Watford manager Marco Silva, with caretaker boss David Unsworth also in the running.
However it would now seem that Simeone has been ruled out of the picture after Cerezo’s emphatic comments.
As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “I want to say this in a loud voice. Simeone is untouchable at Atletico Madrid, for the players, for the directors and for the supporters. Having doubts about Cholo Simeone is not allowed here.

“No club in the world has had 115 years of continuous and wonderful sporting success. We have had good, bad and average seasons and right now we’re in a good one.”
Simeone has become one of Europe’s most sought-after managers during his spell at the helm of Atletico, with the Argentine guiding them to the La Liga title in 2014, along with two Champions League final appearances.
In other Everton news, this manager has also ruled himself out of the running for the top job.
