Everton fan ‘anger’ echoed by Kieran Maguire after Nottingham Forest development

The “anger” of Everton supporters is justified after they were given a bigger punishment than Nottingham Forest for a smaller breach.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest exceeded their allowable losses by £15million more than the Toffees.

Everton faced an initial 10-point punishment for their PSR breach in November after they exceeded their allowable losses by £19.5million over a three-year period.

Forest were then given a six-point deduction for their £35million breach which was reduced to four points for good compliance.

As revealed by Football Insider, the points deduction given to Nottingham Forest could change after the end of the season.

Everton fan outrage at points deduction is justified

Maguire believes the original Everton verdict appears to “lack logic” but believes the difference in the two penalties can be justified by the overall losses of both clubs.

There does appear to be a lack of logic with that initial Everton punishment,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Although, it has to be said that Forest were actually given a six-point tariff which was reduced by two points for the degree of proactive cooperation they gave to the commission.

Whereas if you look at some of the comments from the original commission in relation to Everton, there wasn’t as much.

However, you can certainly understand anger from Everton fans saying our breach was £19.5million and yet they’ve ended up with a bigger punishment than Nottingham Forest who exceeded by £34.5million.

Forest fans will argue their overall loss of £94.5million was less than Everton’s loss of £124 million, so that’s the justification.

But that ignores the fact that Forest are operating to a different set of rules because they’ve just been promoted.
