Everton have confirmed the news on Twitter that midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson will likely be out of action for six to eight weeks following a knee injury incurred against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.
The news all but ends the player’s season but at the time, the Icelandic was allowed to continue which prompted annoyed fans to voice their opinion on the decision to allow the 28-year-old to remain on the field of play.

He now faces a race to be fit in time to help feature for his national side in Iceland’s first-ever appearance at a World Cup finals.
But with their number ten crocked, the Goodison Park faithful have already earmarked who they want to see replace Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen is the man for them.
The Dutch attacker received a massive applause on Saturday when he was given a run out for the Blues, as fans made their feelings towards the former Ajax man known.
After his £24million summer move to Merseyside, the 25-year-old has had a limited number of opportunities, just 16 to be precise, and there was talk he would leave the club back in January in a bid to secure first team action.
And it would seem that fans want to see the midfielder given a chance to show what he can do after such high expectations following his arrival.
Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on Sigurdsson’s injury news and called for Klaassen to be given an opportunity and here is a selection of those reactions:
Gutted, he seemed to finally be clicking as a no.10 for us (which is where he should have been played all along). ????
Hopefully Klaassen gets a chance???? https://t.co/0fzB1Xb27E

Well if Klaassen it gives him a run of gakes which hes not had yet. Will still take time as he has no match sharpness atm, barely any football at all for months

Klaassen is the only other comparable player. Rooney doesn’t drive forward. Needs to sit and spray balls. Sigurdsson still for me isn’t that great. He runs around a lot and that’s about it

Watch big Sam pick Schneiderlin over Klaassen
