Everton fans rage on Twitter after senior player suffers injury on international duty

By Amir Mir

James McCarthy has suffered an injury while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland – and Everton fans on Twitter have reacted angrily.

The 26-year-old was warming up for a World Cup qualifier against Wales at the Aviva Stadium on Friday evening when he was forced to drop out of the starting XI.

The Republic of Ireland’s official Twitter account revealed that Hull City’s David Meyler had replaced the Toffees senior player in the side.

Everton fans were raging at the news on Twitter because McCarthy had joined up with the ROI squad, having not played for his side during their last two games.

It is believed that the midfielder has still not fully recovered from injury as Toffees boss Ronald Koeman will not be pleased to hear this news.

January signing Morgan Schneiderlin is another player already on the sidelines and now the duo could miss important fixtures for their side.

After the international break, Koeman will prepare his team for an important Premier League encounter against rivals Liverpool on April 1 at Anfield.

Three days later they will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United before hosting Premier League champions Leiecteser City on April 9.

The relationship between Koeman and ROI boss Martin O’Neill has always been frosty with the Dutchman critical of the former Aston Villa boss calling up McCarthy when he is injured.
