Everton fans react on Twitter to player agreeing three-year deal

By Dominic Toner

Everton have signed Ashley Williams from Swansea – and the Merseyside club’s fans reacted with delight on Twitter.

Everton confirmed the signing of the defender on Wednesday afternoon and it was confirmed on the club’s official website that he has moved to Goodison Park on a three-year deal.

There have been thousands of reactions to Williams signing for the Merseyside club and most people on Twitter agree that it is a smart piece of business from Ronald Koeman’s side.

Here are a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kavel Solkehol claimed on Wednesday morning that Everton would pay £9million for the Wales international, although the fee was undisclosed by the club in the official announcement.

Wales skipper Williams was pictured arriving with his agent at Everton on Tuesday afternoon to put the finishing touches to the deal after making his farewells at training at Swansea on Tuesday morning.

He has become the third senior summer arrival at the Toffees this summer after the captures of Idrissa Gueye and Martin Stekelenburg.

Williams is now widely regarded as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, starting all but two of Swansea’s 38 league matches last season.

The defender joined Swansea in the 2007-08 season and made 352 appearances for the now established Premier League side.

Williams will be a direct replacement for John Stones, who completed a £47.5million transfer to Manchester City on Tuesday morning that demolished Everon’s transfer record.

In other Everton transfer news, Arsenal are set to hijack the club’s move for a Premier League striker.
