Everton fans: Sean Dyche to be ‘sacked’ after what he did v Southampton
Everton fans are calling for Sean Dyche to be sacked after a “terrible” decision he made during the Carabao Cup clash v Southampton.
The Saints knocked Dyche’s side out of the League Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time, with Ashley Young missing the decisive penalty.
However, it was a decision involving Young which grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons after Dyche brought the full-back on to replace their striker, Beto, after 62 minutes.
With half and hour remaining of the knock-out tie, with the score level at 1-1, the boss’ decision was greeted by a chorus of boos from the Goodison Park faithful.
Tension has been growing in recent weeks as the Toffees remain winless and pointless in the Premier League, but many believe this is the final straw.
Football Insider, meanwhile, has revealed that Everton will sack Dyche should his side lose upcoming games against Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
This is the first time in 66 years that the club have lost their opening four games of the season, while 3-2 defeats to both Bournemouth and Aston Villa having been 2-0 up have increased frustrations.
Everton fans demand Sean Dyche be sacked after Southampton loss
Sources say the board are keen to repay Dyche with good faith after his impressive role in stabilising the club despite chaos behind the scenes, but could be forced to make a change.
After being knocked out of the cup on penalties, there are very few positives for Everton to take from the start of the season.
The decision to bring on a 37-year-old full-back in place of the striker when chasing the game was already controversial, but for Young to then miss his decisive penalty led to an explosion of anger.
Fans have flooded to social media to express their demands for Dyche’s head, and many are insisting the boss should lose his job immediately.
