Everton have again been linked with a summer move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and according to a report in The Mirror, the Toffees director of football Steve Walsh has made the player the club’s number one transfer target.

The Mirror claims that Everton held a recruitment meeting recently and it ended with Vary on top of their summer hit list.

At 31, the Foxes striker could not be described as a long-term solution to their issues going forward but would provide a quick answer to their woes in the immediate future.

The Toffees have the second worst goals for record inside the top 11 sides of the Premier League with 33 registered all season.

Vardy alone has 15 goals in 32 outings, representing a healthy outlay and proving that he is more than capable of finding the back of the net.

Currently, the goal-threat that Dominic Calvert-Lewin offers is minimal, and Wayne Rooney has a tendency to slow the game down, so there is no real pace spearheading the Blues attack.

With the creativity of Gylfi Sigurdsson in the centre of the park, along with the pace of Theo Walcott on the wing, Vardy’s finishing ability and speed on the ball would work wonders at Goodison Park and give the supporters something exciting to look forward to.

The Foxes striker has previously turned down a move to Arsenal following the club’s title-winning season so whether he would consider a switch to Merseyside is unlikely, but Everton must do all they can to land their target.

In other Everton transfer news, Toffees must seal £130,000-per-week Man United player reportedly available at £14million.
