Everton can make the signing of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford the deal of the summer if they can take advantage of the striker’s current reported discontentment at Old Trafford and lure him to Goodison.
According to the Mirror, the Red Devils speed-machine is unhappy with the lack of minutes he is getting under his belt this season and wants more game-time.
With Romelu Lukaku currently occupying the position and banging in the goals, it gives manager Jose Mourinho little reason to change the formula, potentially spelling an exit for the forward this summer.
And this is where the Blues can step in.
Under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, the Toffees have become a side bereft of pace, of zip, and of verve – and what’s more, whoever is in charge of matters at the club next season will need to address that problem.
Rashford, 20, can give them everything they need – a proven goalscorer and England international he could figure in a front two with Cenk Tosun dropping just behind him in attack next season.
There is already an open channel between the two clubs – the Morgan Schneiderlin and Wayne Rooney arrivals have shown there is previous between Everton and United which would make a transfer relatively simple.
Twenty-two starts from 43 outings for the Red Devils this season is what is reportedly causing Rashford grievance but that wouldn’t be a worry for him at Goodison where he would be a mainstay in the side.
The 20-year-old would be the signing of the summer if Everton could get their hands on him.
He would be the man to push them forward and start seeing some progression from the millions pumped into the club courtesy of Farhad Moshiri.
