Everton player ratings v Manchester City: Academy youngster gets 9/10

By Will Butcher

Football Insider rates the Everton players after their incredible 4-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday at Goodison Park.

Joel Robles 8 – A number of important saves made the Spaniard look like a different goalkeeper against City. Lucky to get away with tripping Raheem Sterling in the box early on.

Mason Holgate 6 – Solid without impressing, Holgate played an important part of the Toffees’ back three.

Seamus Coleman 7 – Put in an incredible effort on the right flank, as he seemed to appear whenever the ball was near the touchline in both defensive and attacking situations.

Ashley Williams 8 – Top performance. The veteran defender made a number of blocks and tackles, and was clever enough to remain wise to City’s set-piece routines.

Ramiro Funes Mori 7 – Good performance from the Argentinian, although still some way to go before shaking off the tag of being an error-strewn defender. Decision making at times was questionable.

Leighton Baines 8 – One of the best players on the park, as Baines almost dominated proceedings from left-back. Defensively astute and dangerous going forward.

Gareth Barry 7 – Controlled the tempo of the match by keeping things simple and breaking his former side’s attacks up. Age is just a number.

Tom Davies 9 – A near perfect performance from the teenager. Made the first goal and cleared one off the line. Passing was superb, work rate and positioning all get the seal of approval. Wonderful finish for the third goal.

Kevin Mirallas 8 – Brilliant finish for the second goal. The Belgium international looks to have reinvigorated his career after a disappointing 2015-16 campaign.

Ross Barkley 7 – A danger going forward, Barkley provided the assist for Lukaku’s strike. Struggled to get involved throughout, though.

Romelu Lukaku 9 – Another brilliant performance from the target man, who caused problems for John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi all day. Top finish to break the deadlock.

Subs:

Morgan Schneiderlin (On for Mirallas, 64 mins) 7

James McCarthy (On for Barry, 74 mins) 6

Ademola Lookman (On for Barkley, 90 mins) 8
