Everton player ratings vs Burnley: 8/10 duo dazzle but 3/10 is awful
Everton came out on top in a nerve-racking relegation fight against Burnley on Saturday afternoon (6 April).
Sean Dyche’s side started poorly at Goodison Park but stole a vital three points with a 1-0 win courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first-half goal.
Everton are now four points clear of the relegation zone with seven games remaining in the 2023-24 campaign.
PLAYER RATINGS
Jordan Pickford – 5
Directed by Dyche to play long and direct and his precise distribution to Calvert-Lewin and Doucoure gave Everton a quick route into the final third. Had a quiet afternoon in terms of shot-stopping but his footwork and organisation were impressive.
Seamus Coleman – 6

Made a strong return to the starting lineup after missing out against Newcastle. He threatened down the right flank but struggled to link up with Young to create any clear-cut opportunities.
James Tarkowski – 4
Clearly lacked confidence and looked unsure of himself in difficult, windy conditions. Picked up a clumsy yellow card in the first half and made a mistake that almost gifted the visitors the opener.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 8

Everton should name him Player of the Season already. Branthwaite was the standout performer in a very poor side. Made countless interceptions and tackles that limited Burnley to very few chances.
The 21-year-old is a huge threat from set pieces and also charged forward with the ball at his feet. Everton will do well to keep hold of him beyond the summer.
Vitaliy Mykolenko – 5
A strong defensive performance against a Burnley side eager to attack his flank. Enjoyed some bright glimpses of creativity when linking up with McNeil but struggled to get forward as regularly as he’d have liked.
James Garner – 4

Sloppy. Started poorly with far too many wayward passes which gave Burnley a chance to counter. He carried out his defensive duties well but failed to make an impact in possession.
Andre Gomes – 6
Gomes was one of the very few players from either side who attempted to control possession with simple passes. However, he was let down by his teammates who were not on the same wavelength. An island of composure in an otherwise scrappy Everton side.
Ashley Young – 3
Blunt and indecisive. On multiple occasions, Young delayed when presented with an opportunity to cross or shoot. Lacked creativity and quality throughout and will be lucky to keep his place next week.
Dwight McNeil – 5

Full of energy against his former side and had flashes of inspiration cutting in from the left. However, he lacked quality in the final third and his decision-making was poor.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6
Linked up well with Calvert-Lewin in an advanced role but continues to lack the ruthlessness he showed earlier in the season. He is still yet to score in 2024 which will be a growing concern for Dyche.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 8

Despite being starved of service, Calvert-Lewin continued to fight for every ball and was rewarded when he charged down Muric for the opening goal.
He salvaged a point with a late penalty against Newcastle and his goal made the difference again in a nervy relegation scrap.
