Kieran Maguire issues Everton board prediction after Usmanov ‘eyes end ears’ charged by police

The disruption caused in the Everton boardroom by Sarvar Ismailov will not impact the day-to-day running of the club.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old former Toffees director.

The BBC reported on 24 November that Ismailov, who was on the board for just four months, has appeared in court charged with four counts of GBH.

Ismailov, who is the nephew of Everton benefactor Alisher Usmanov, cited “personal and health reasons” when he stepped down on 2 November.

Maguire told this site in July that the Ismailov would be Usmanov’s “eyes and ears” in the corridors of power at Goodison.

But the football governance expert does not anticipate great changes at executive level following his departure.

“I think the change at board level isn’t a huge issue,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams

“Denise Barrett-Baxendale is a very capable leader. She has shown herself very capable of steering the club in the right direction.

“They have got other very competent people on the board who are more familiar with the club on a longer-term basis.

“I don’t think this business will particularly disrupt things going forward, not in terms of the day-to-day running of the club.”

Everton, who are currently 11th in the Premier League standings, are owned by British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri.

Moshiri and Usmanov are long-standing business associates and are widely reported to enjoy a strong personal relationship.
