Report: Everton ready to make January move for PL ace, player is valued at £12m
By Harvey Byrne
Everton are ready to move for Southampton captain Jose Fonte after he requested a transfer away from the south coast side, according to a report.
The Mirror has claimed that Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is ready to make a swoop for the 33-year-old centre-back as he plans a mid-season revamp.
Fonte has been a part of the Saints side for six years after joining from Crystal Palace back in 2010 with then manager Alan Pardew’s side in League One.
However, the Portugal international has reportedly grown disgruntled at the Southampton hierarchy after disagreements between the club and player over a new contract.
This caused Fonte to hand in a transfer request and he has since been omitted from the Saints’ squad which faced Norwich on Saturday and he will also miss Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

But, despite the player wanting a move away from St Mary’s it is still believed that the south coast club will hold out for £12million for one of their star players.
Koeman made Fonte his captain at Southampton back in 2014 and with the Toffees currently having problems at the back he may have identified his former player as the perfect target.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton are in desperate need for a new centre-back and Fonte would be the perfect signing for the Toffees. The Portugal international is well established in the Premier League and would most certainly improve the back four. He also has large experience of playing under Koeman and the Dutch manager will be fully aware of his capabilities. Fonte was part of a successful Southampton side under Koeman which saw the club earn qualification to the Europa League. For £12million Fonte could help do the same at Everton and with the riches of the English top flight now a difference in one position could repay the fee spent on the Euro 2016 winner.
