Kieran Maguire salutes Everton as new left-field commercial deal secured

Everton are right to “think outside the box” when it comes to chasing new commercial opportunities.

So says finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Toffees announced a new deal with Socios on 3rd August.

The blockchain provider will create a new Everton fan token that allows supporters to influence club matters.

Commercial director Alan McTavish saluted the club’s “global fanbase” and claimed Socios would help better facilitate engagement with it.

Socios are making serious inroads in football and have already partnered with the likes of Man City, Juventus, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

Maguire insisted that it bodes well for Everton that Socios consider them a viable partner.

“I think it’s a good sign they are in the same pool as these teams,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It’s good that they are trying to think outside the box in securing the club’s future.

“With all of these teams, Socios want to be covered by as many clubs as possible because it adds to their credibility.

“The big question is, what is going to be the added value? You get your Socios token and they let you enter a ballot to make decisions at the club.

“It’s a bit like going to a theme park and you give them £20 and they give you five tokens.

“How you spend those five tokens is up to you, but you can’t convert the tokens back to cash.

“You’re converting cash for quasi-cash so I think the most important thing for Socios is to make sure there is genuine added value from a fan’s perspective.
