Everton are eyeing up a shock move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere who could be available on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.
The Mirror states that with the Gunners ace’ future still up in the air due to a bizarre new contract offer from the North Londoners that would see his basic pay drop from £110,000-per-week to £90,000-per-week, the Toffees believe they could steal in on their Premier League counterparts.
And the Goodison Park outfit will offer the injury-prone star an attractive signing on fee as well as an improved weekly wage in a bid to lure him to Merseyside.
Football Insider verdict:
If Steve Walsh and co. are still at Everton this summer then the signing of Wilshere would certainly signal their intentions of where the club is wanting to go. The 26-year-old has been one of England’s most creative player’s for many years and with the Toffees struggling in that department, his arrival would repair that issue. It’s also a move that would see him link back up with Theo Walcott and would be a great provider for Cenk Tosun going forward. Should the Blues land their man, it would lead to question marks over the future of Wayne Rooney at the club, as the two play in a similar position. We can’t see him leaving Arsenal though. Wilshere wants to stay and we think eventually some kind of an agreement will be reached.
