Everton, Spurs stars react to Anthony Gordon’s message amid Newcastle exit updates
Anthony Gordon attracted attention from rival Premier League stars after Newcastle United took a step closer to Champions League qualification against Chelsea.
Eddie Howe’s side moved to third in the Premier League table, just two points behind Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal, with a 2-0 win at St James’ Park on Sunday, 11 May.
Sandro Tonali fired home the opener after just two minutes, with Bruno Guimaraes taking advantage of the Blues going down to 10 men as the Brazilian midfielder looped home an effort in the closing stages.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Keith Hackett slammed John Brooks for not instantly sending Nicolas Jackson off for his elbow on Sven Botman, with common sense prevailing in the VAR room.
Gordon only played 65 minutes at St James’ Park before being replaced by Emil Krafth, but that did not stop him from celebrating all three points over a rival Premier League club.
Anthony Gordon regains Newcastle United XI spot
Taking to Instagram (11 May), Gordon wrote: “Massive win. 2 to go,” with black and white hearts, to which Guimaraes responded with fire emojis.
Tonali, Joelinton, Sven Botman, and Alan Shearer all liked the post, joined by Everton star Dwight McNeil and Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke.
Eddie Howe could lose Newcastle United star amid Arsenal links
Football Insider verdict
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal are plotting a move for Gordon this summer, with the 24-year-old winger high on the Gunners’ list of targets.
He has notched 22 goals and 16 assists in 104 appearances since joining from Everton in January 2023, becoming an impressive figure in the Premier League and earning 10 caps for England.
The interest ahead of the summer transfer window is no surprise, though Football Insider understands that Arsenal must spend “big money” to afford the Newcastle star’s signature.

With Alexander Isak and Guimaraes also being linked with exits, Howe cannot afford to lose multiple of his attacking stars ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, especially before another season in Europe.
A top-two finish is currently on the cards for the Magpies, and if several key stars are to leave during the summer transfer window, it could be a very tough campaign coming up for Howe and his staff.
