Everton news: Medical expert names exact Ben Godfrey return date

Everton defender Ben Godfery is “nowhere near” an immediate return and will likely be out until the game against Crystal Palace next Thursday (19 May).

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Godfrey, 24, has not featured in any of the Toffees’ last three matches against Liverpool, Chelsea or Leicester City respectively.

The centre-back is sidelined with a thigh injury as relegation-threatened Everton gear up for their last four matches of the season.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday (10 May), Frank Lampard claimed he is “working with every ounce of sweat in his body to be fit and take part in the run-in.”

But Dinnery does not expect the two-cap England man to return in either of the next two matches.

“I wouldn’t expect that he’ll be anywhere near against Watford,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“There is a very small chance for the coming weekend. But that will come down to whether he can come through training sessions without a reaction and if he is able to compete.

“Realistically, it will more likely be next week, maybe that Crystal Palace game. But if Everton were to go to Vicarage Road and put another three points on the board, that would ease the pressure a lot.”

Godfrey has turned out 27 times for Everton this term.

Defensive partner Yerry Mina is also currently out of action with a calf injury.
