Everton stunned by Nottingham Forest verdict after £15m reveal – Kieran Maguire

Everton will review the Nottingham Forest points deduction with “raised eyebrows” after they were given a smaller penalty for a bigger breach.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest were given a more lenient penalty despite breaching regulations by £15million more than Everton.

Forest’s PSR case concluded with a four-point deduction on Monday (18 March) after they exceeded their allowable losses by £34.5million.

The Toffees faced an initial 10-point deduction in November after being found guilty by an independent commission of exceeding losses by £19.5million.

The Blues successfully appealed their decision which reduced the punishment to six points, but the Merseyside club are still two points worse off than Forest.

Maguire believes Everton will be closely reviewing the verdict and claims there is a “lack of consistency” with the punishments.

I suspect Everton will be reviewing the Nottingham Forest verdict with raised eyebrows,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They were initially given a 10-point penalty for exceeding the PSR limit by £19million.

Everton fans cheering

Then they have seen Nottingham Forest having a £34million excess and yet they are given a four-point penalty.

So there does appear to be a lack of consistency in the way that the decisions are made.
