Everton tipped to re-sign Idrissa Gueye after journalist reveals new approach - pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed re-signing Idrissa Gueye could be the “right solution” for cash-strapped Everton this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 32-year-old “could hit the ground running” at Goodison Park.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed (28 July) that Everton have approached Paris Saint-Germain about a deal for Gueye – with talks still in the “early stages”.

According to L’Equipe (12 July), the 94-time Senegal international is one of 10 players up for sale at Parc des Princes after being labelled “undesirables” during the off-season.

Gueye, who is out of contract in June 2023, made 33 appearances across all competitions last term.

Everton lost Fabian Delph and Donny van de Beek at the end of last season and are prepared to listen to offers for Andre Gomes.

When asked if Gueye would be a good addition for Lampard’s side, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think so.

“32 is still a good age. He’s someone who can still do a job, and that could be the right solution for Everton.

“Even with selling Richarlison and getting in a lot of money for that deal, they’ve got to be very mindful about what they’re spending.

“They need quality, experienced players who can come in and hit the ground running.

“That’s why it makes sense for Everton to go down this route and get Gueye in.”

Everton have completed the signings of Dwight McNeil, Ruben Vinagre, and James Tarkowski thus far this summer.

The Toffees start their Premier League campaign against Chelsea on 6 August.
