Everton to appoint high-profile executive after deal agreed – Stefan Borson

Everton will appoint a high-profile individual as their new CEO despite Lina Souloukou agreeing to join Evangelos Marinakis’s multi-club group.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the CEO role at Goodison Park will be “challenging” for whoever takes up the position following the Merseysiders’ recent struggles.

Souloukou, who worked with The Friedkin Group (TFG) at Roma before her resignation this season, had been linked with a reunion with the Americans at Everton as the club’s new CEO.

Colin Chong holds the role in an interim capacity at Goodison following Denise Barrett-Baxendale’s exit last year.

But The Athletic reported on 7 December Souloukou is now set to be appointed to the CEO role within Marinakis’s multi-club network, with a particular focus on Nottingham Forest.

She has previously worked with the Greek billionaire at Olympiakos.

Everton will find someone to take on ‘challenging’ role

But Borson insisted missing out on bringing Souloukou in is not a big deal for Everton.

He told Football Insider: “I think it is interesting from the Nottingham Forest group’s perspective.

“If they can get Edu and Souloukou together, it’s clearly a very high-profile and quality leadership group, so that would be very good for them.

“I don’t think it’s a big deal for Everton. The Friedkin’s obviously know her well, but there are other people that they can go for.

“I don’t think it’s the end of the world. I think Everton will find somebody.

“If they have got the right backing financially and the right support from the Friedkin’s, which it looks like that is the case, they will find somebody of a high quality that will want to take the Everton job.

“I think it’s a very challenging job. There are a number of aspects to it that will remain challenging.

“It’s not going to be one of these situations where everything is fixed on day one of the new takeover. The takeover is the first step.

“You have got to actually execute really quite a complex project.”
