Everton to sell Amadou Onana to Aston Villa at £15m discount – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes the club are set to receive less money from Aston Villa for Amadou Onana than the midfielder is actually worth.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested he would value the Belgium international at around £65million.
Football Insider revealed on 15 July Onana had agreed personal terms with Villa as he prepares to make his £50million move to the club.
The midfielder has been linked with several top clubs in recent months, but it appears as though the West Midlands giants are now set to secure his signature.
Everton are ready to cash in on the 22-year-old in a bid to help their financial situation, having been deducted eight points last season for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules.
Everton selling Amadou Onana due to PSR concerns
Although Wyness insisted he is “happy” with the price the Merseysiders are set to receive for Onana, he believes the fee is short of his true value.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I would say Villa have got a great deal if it’s just £50-£55million for Onana.
“I think he will be a star for the future.
“I think we are nowhere near the similar sort of value as the Branthwaite deal.
“I would have put Onana at about £65million.
“If we get £55million, then you are within the margin of error and negotiation.

“Everton probably needed to do that transaction for PSR requirements.
“I am happy enough with that sort of price.”
