Everton transfer news: Kieran Maguire suggests ‘low’ offers being lined up for star men

Other clubs will “low-ball” Everton in the transfer market this summer as they are aware of their need to balance the books through player sales.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Profit and Sustainability Rules are “not fit for purpose” as they stop clubs from trading at fair prices.

Everton announced in March that they suffered losses of £89million over the 2022-23 season despite a profit of £48million from player trading.

The Merseyside club have already faced two points deductions this season for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules in previous accounts.

Maguire previously told Football Insider that Everton are now at risk of a third points deduction unless they can balance their books through player sales.

Everton will struggle to sell at ‘fair price’ this summer

However, with Everton’s financial struggles now public knowledge, Maguire believes other clubs will refuse to pay fair prices for players on the market this summer.

Other clubs will be well aware of Everton’s financial situation,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

If they are looking to sell a player in the summer, then clubs will start low-balling them in terms of prices and bids.

It isn’t fair in my view and I also think it’s indicative that PSR as they presently operate are not fit for purpose.

It doesn’t allow clubs such as Everton to operate and trade at fair market prices.
