Everton wonderkid expects January signings, vows to work to keep first-team place

By Will Butcher

Tom Davies isn’t worried about seeing new faces at Everton this month and has vowed to fight for his first-team place.

The 18-year-old starred in the Toffees’ 3-0 win over Southampton on Monday, as he supplied an inch-perfect assist for Romelu Lukaku’s 11th goal of the season.

Talking to the Daily Star, Davies revealed that he will fight for his place in Ronald Koeman’s side after revealing that the Toffees are likely to bring in January reinforcements.

“I think any competition is really good for the whole squad,” Davies said, when quizzed about new signings.

“Whoever they bring in I will just keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully I can stand out in training and in games so I keep my place.”

The Toffees have already had a £19million bid rejected for Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, as Koeman looks to add reinforcements to his midfield.

According to the BBC, Everton will remain undeterred in their pursuit of Schneiderlin while also targeting United’s Memphis Depay.

The Times claimed on Tuesday that League One hotshot Ademola Lookman is set to complete a £10million move to Goodison Park in the next 24 hours.

Summer signing Idrissa Gueye is set to leave Merseyside to represent Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations this month, which has seen Davies earn a place in the first team.

The Toffees’ number 26 has now made eight appearances for the Merseyside giants and is likely to retain his place against Premier League champions Leicester in the third round of the FA Cup.

In other Everton news, this Euro star should be targeted to replace injury-prone winger Yannick Bolasie.
