Everton would accept big Dominic Calvert-Lewin offer – Borson

Everton would likely sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin to ease their profit and sustainability (PSR) concerns if a big-money offer was on the table for his services.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants could offload the England international as early as Sunday to allow themselves leeway if they lose their capitalisation case against the Premier League.

Everton were handed an eight-point deduction last season after being charged by the governing body for two separate spending breaches.

There has been speculation over whether the Merseysiders will have to sell some of their star players to avoid another points deduction before they submit their accounts on Sunday.

Football Insider revealed on 23 June Newcastle United were in advanced talks with Everton to sign Calvert-Lewin, but negotiations are no longer taking place between the two Premier League clubs.

Swiss Ramble has reported Sean Dyche’s side won’t be forced to sell players this summer to comply with the PSR rules.

But Everton are currently in dispute with the Premier League regarding the status of certain costs associated with the building of their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock and face a further independent committee hearing later this year.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin sale unlikely despite Everton PSR concerns

Borson believes selling someone like Calvert-Lewin could provide the club with a buffer as their losses could be negatively adjusted by up to £40million for the past two seasons if they lose their capitalisation case.

He told Football Insider: “I think if they could sell big to smash through PSR to allow a lot of leeway if the capitalisation case goes against them, then they would.

“That would look someone like Calvert-Lewin, but there is not long left before the deadline.

“I think what they have probably done is set themselves up to be okay unless they lose the PSR case.

“They have sold Dobbin and Godfrey, which has brought in some profit.

“I suspect they are okay on PSR for 2023-24 if they win the capitalisation PSR case.

“The question is do they want to strategically give themselves a buffer in case they lose that case by selling Calvert-Lewin or do they want to take the risk?

“The reality is, they have only had the option of a potential swap deal to Newcastle and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.”
