Everton’s Gueye reacts to Richarlison’s emotional post amid Tottenham exit links

Richarlison took to social media with a heartfelt message after Tottenham were thrashed 4-1 by Brighton in North London.

The Brazilian forward has been given a run in the starting lineup in recent weeks, even starting the Europa League final against Man United, but he was dropped to the bench on Sunday, 25 May.

Still fresh off the high of lifting a European title, Dominic Solanke opened the scoring from the penalty spot, only for a Jack Hinshelwood brace to turn the game on its head in the second half.

Matt O’Riley and Diego Gomez sealed all three points in the late stages at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, condemning the Lilywhites to their 22nd league defeat of the 2024/25 season.

Given the North London team’s form in domestic competitions, Ange Postecoglou remains under pressure at Tottenham, and he could be set to join Richarlison out of the exit doors this summer.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Richarlison is “certain” to leave Tottenham, with David Moyes likely to hold talks over bringing the 28-year-old back to Merseyside this summer, albeit the Scot has played down the suggestion publicly to this point.

Richarlison could have played final Tottenham game

Taking to Instagram (26 May), Richarlison wrote: “When this season started, all I wanted was to be healthy to help my team have a better year.

“I knew it would be important to me mentally, and also finally repay, somehow, the love I’ve received these past few years from Spurs fans and all those who cheer me on.

Going on to speak about his injury issues and struggles on the sidelines, the Brazilian ended by saying: “Thank you to everyone who has been by my side and been part of this very special moment.

“You are always believing and encouraging me, even in the most difficult moments. Thank you to Tottenham – management, players, technical committee, staff, and my whole staff – for making it happen together.”

As well as gaining likes from teammates Guglielmo Vicario, Pape Sarr, Dominic Solanke, and Pedro Porro, midfielder Idrissa Gueye also supported the player, potentially helping add fuel to rumours of an Everton return.

Ange Postecoglou remains under pressure after Brighton defeat

Football Insider verdict

Despite ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought, as he promised at the start of the season, Postecoglou’s future as Tottenham manager remains uncertain.

Supporters have been extremely critical of the Australian’s tactics, inability to adapt to an injury crisis, and also his demeanour has also been questioned when talking to the media.

Ange Postecoglou Tottenham record

Daniel Levy seems to have been backed into a corner after Postecoglou suggested that his third season in charge would bring even more success, but Football Insider understands that Marco Silva is interested in leaving Fulham amid interest from Tottenham.

If the 59-year-old does remain in charge, however, he will need the full support of the owner during the summer transfer window, and getting rid of Richarlison could just be the start.

Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, and James Maddison have all been linked with cut-throat exits this summer, and any player sales could help Postecoglou rebuild ahead of the 2025/26 season.
