Everton’s new summer signing plan revealed after dramatic twist – sources

Everton have told their recruitment team they can only explore free transfers and loan signings this summer due to the club’s financial troubles, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees are also unable to complete any incoming deals before players have been sold as they look to balance the books at Goodison Park.

Football Insider revealed on 21 May that Everton will need to sell at least one of their “big” stars before they submit their accounts on 30 June.

Sources say Kalvin Phillips is a target for the Blues this summer, but a deal isn’t close to being agreed for the Manchester City midfielder.

The England international is expected to leave the Etihad once the transfer window reopens after failing to nail down a place with the Citizens and enduring a difficult spell on loan at West Ham.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month Man City’s £40million asking price has put multiple clubs off from making a move to sign the 28-year-old, whose contract is set to run until 2028.

Everton deal to sign Kalvin Phillips long way off completion

Any potential incomings at Everton are likely to be dependent on who leaves the club as they look to avoid committing any further financial breaches.

Football Insider revealed on 25 May the Toffees will accept a £50million bid for midfielder Amadou Onana to ensure some of their other star players remain on Merseyside.

Phillips could be an ideal replacement for the Belgian, but it may be a difficult deal to complete due to Everton’s financial constraints and Man City’s demands.

The midfielder has lost his place in the England squad after failing to impress in his 10 appearances for West Ham, where he made just three starts and didn’t do anywhere near enough to earn a permanent move.

Football Insider revealed last month Phillips had been criticised by Hammers coaches for his poor attitude in training and behind the scenes.
